Contemporary Kitchen Wall Decor – A Look that Says Now
If your like me and enjoy keeping up with the times and fads, then the design of contemporary decorating would fit into your lifestyle and tastes. The kitchen seems to be the room I spend the most time in and has the most traffic, so I choose to start there.
Today the contemporary kitchen look is a blend of comfortable livable elements that create a sophisticated fresh feel. Simplicity, subtle sophistication, texture and clean lines help to define contemporary style decorating. For contemporary interiors less means more. Absolutely nothing in the decor package should be overpowering. You must make a personal statement through the appearance of the total package.
You must put the emphasis on color, contrasts and schemes that bring out simple lines. With this in mind contemporary kitchen wall decor can easily be modified to reflect your personality.
What you need to remember is that color is what makes contemporary style kitchens popular. Reds, blues and bright colors are often the decoration not the cabinetry. Colored tiles are used as back splashes and accessories are colored and can be changed regularly to create a new look. The contemporary kitchen is functional and versatile. The appliance colors should be black, white or stainless steel for a clean hygienic modern feel.
Although clean lines are indicative of contemporary decor, unique geometric shapes are very much at home in this setting. This could come in the form of wall shelving, a sculptured piece of wall art or a contemporary style clock. Each element on the kitchen walls has a drama of its own. There is never a feeling of clutter, messiness or over crowding.
To offset the clean smooth lines of your accents, texture can be added to your walls. You should stay away from patterned wallpaper with intricate details as this will confuse the clean contemporary look that you wish to ultimately achieve.
Track and recessed lighting can be categorized as contemporary lighting. Their most distinctive features are their clean cut lines and geometric shapes. The variety of lighting fixtures will delight and fulfill the needs of the one who is making the contemporary kitchen decor decisions.
If you decide on using wood, contemporary designs bring out the extremes. Feel free to mix the design styles of the wood accessories such as picture frames, but be consistent with the wood tone for a professional appearance.
For a wall clock, to know if it is of a contemporary style it must have the same characteristics as the rest of the wall decor in the kitchen. Its simplicity and geometrical design is the overwhelming style that all contemporary wall clocks share. It is functional, elegant and most likely will be your conversation starter. No matter which clock you choose, it will always have a sleek and modern appeal to your room.
Some of the newest trends for contemporary kitchens involve the use of universal design principals and eco-friendly materials. The main principals of universal design include flexibility, intuitive use, accident prevention and minimizing fatigue. Green design is a trend which makes use of using ecologically safe materials while emphasizing energy efficiency and recycling. The green design will also give you peace of mind with regards to environmental impacts and family health concerns.
Contemporary styled kitchens cover a vast array of looks and it is an ideal style for remodeling or renovating with minimum expense. Keep in mind that good kitchen design ideas take time to develop. The design of your kitchen must encompass the functions and uses of the room like how you prepare meals or how you entertain. With just the right planning you can create the kitchen of your dreams.
